ABOUT US

In a short period of time BlueWaveNJ has become a respected grassroots organization recognized for the know-how and energy of its thousands of committed volunteers and supporters.

Our working groups, conferences, marches and special events have mobilized voters and coalitions to demand positive change from our legislators at the state and federal level in such critical areas as health care, the economy, equality, the environment, education, electoral reform and sensible gun control. We have held major conferences on gun violence, stem cell research, Middle East peace, diversity and commercial sexual exploitation of children and our nation’s growing health care crisis. We have distributed and written thousands of educational flyers, petitions and letters. We have directly lobbied legislators and officials demanding that they save Social Security, protect net neutrality, restrict corporate media concentration, promote alternative energy production, provide universal health care, enact “clean elections,” install reliable voting machines, ensure quality education for all, pass a fair state budget and marriage equality legislation.

But issue-based advocacy is only one of BlueWaveNJ’s activities. In 2008 and 2009, our state and federal political action committees successfully trained more than 1,000 volunteers who helped elect progressive candidates in local and national races. In 2009, the BlueWaveNJ Public Interest Foundation opened a Community Action Center in Montclair, NJ, to serve as a free resource for individuals and families in need of after-school tutoring, job counseling, and clothing, among other services. And we are seeing positive results from our school anti-violence community programs in urban school districts. BlueWaveNJ has garnered national and state recognition. The group has been featured on ABC’s “20/20” and received special mention by then Governor Jon Corzine for our advocacy work.

While BlueWaveNJ has accomplished much since that cold, January 19 2005 inaugural meeting, there is still much to be done with your help. Join BlueWaveNJ today to help make our communities, our country and our world a better place to live.

how we work

In keeping with our mission to find solutions through community, BlueWaveNJ created issue-based working groups: networks of activists who wish to implement change, often collaborating with other progressive organizations. Working groups are open to all. If you can’t find one devoted to an issue you are interested in, you can start your own!

In addition to the activities of its working groups, BlueWaveNJ educates the public and members via general meetings held every 4–6 weeks. Whether you belong to a working group, attend general BlueWaveNJ meetings, or simply check our website periodically, we welcome your participation!
