Help Block the Keystone XL Pipeline

Hi All,

Congressional Republicans are apparently on the verge of pushing the Keystone XL pipeline back onto the front burner.  Environmental groups are frantically trying to raise hundreds of thousands of signatures on petitions asking our Congressional leaders to block the Keystone XL pipeline.  Please sign these petitions ASAP.

There has been much written about the pipeline, including 2 very misleading columns this week in the NY Times Op-Ed section by Joe Nocera. To read a rebuttal to Nocera’s column, please go to this link: http://thinkprogress.org/romm/2012/02/13/423525/joe-nocera-wrong-unfair-keystone-xl-tar-sands-pipeline-mckibben-hansen-explain-why/

Also as reference, there are 2 studies that refute the claim by TransCanada (the company that wants to build the pipeline) and the GOP that the pipeline will create 20,000+ jobs.  According to these studies, the number of temporary jobs ranges from 2500-6000 and the number of permanent jobs is a few hundred.

Please contact your Senator as soon as possible!  Monday, senators in cahoots with the oil industry are filing an amendment to a transportation bill that would force through approval of Keystone XL.

You can dial the congressional switchboard at (202) 224-3121, ask for Senator Frank Lautenberg and Senator Bob Menendez.

Thank you!!

Mike
