BlueWaveNJ Denounces Mike Pompeo Nomination For Secretary Of State

BLUEWAVE NJ DENOUNCES MIKE POMPEO NOMINATION FOR SECRETARY OF STATE

Calls on US Senate Candidate Bob Hugin To Make His Stance Clear

(Montclair, NJ) April 19, 2018 —  In the wake of last week’s confirmation hearings before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, BlueWave NJ announces its stand against the nomination of Mike Pompeo for Secretary of State and calls on New Jersey candidate for the U.S. Senate, Bob Hugin, to make his stance clear.

In the organization’s statement, Marcia Marley, BlueWave NJ president, notes that during the hearing, and for many years, Mike Pompeo has displayed the worst of the far-right agenda through years of perpetuating xenophobia, homophobia, and hawkish tendencies.  Time and time again, Mike Pompeo has espoused anti-Muslim bigotry, denied climate change, tried to destroy diplomacy with Iran, and supported torture.

"BWNJ strongly believes that New Jersey deserves representatives in Washington that respect ALL New Jerseyans and will support equal treatment regardless of race, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation.  Both New Jersey's current senators understand that Pompeo would be an enormously destructive force and have publicly opposed his nomination, “ she says. "The people of New Jersey deserve to know U.S. Senate candidate Bob Hugin’s position on Pompeo's nomination.  Hugin’s stance on Mr. Pompeo’s nomination will be a clear indicator of his values and how he would choose to represent our state in one of the highest offices in this country.”
