Phone Bank Maine Voters To Reject Tax Bill

Deja vu all over again. A horrific bill that will drive ruinous spending cuts to vital domestic programs  (including the ACA) has passed the House -- and needs just 50 votes in the Senate. The Republican tax cut bill showers bounty on the wealthiest while blowing a $1.5 trillion hole in the budget -- and crippling Obamacare for good measure.

As with the ACA repeal bills, we can help stop this travesty by turning three Republican senators against it. We do that by calling voters in states with Republican senators who have expressed qualms about the bill and asking them to demand "no" votes.

The tax bill:

  • raises taxes on every income group up through $50,000-75,000 by 2027, while making a huge corporate tax cut permanent.
  • repeals the ACA individual mandate, which will reduce the ranks of the insured by 13 million according to projections by the Congressional Budget Office.
  • triggers about $150 billion dollars per year in mandatory spending cuts, including a $25 billion cut to Medicare in the first year, according to CBO.
  • will lead to other massive spending cuts to vital domestic programs, per Paul Ryan's promise.
This summer and fall, Senator Susan Collins of Maine was the strongest Republican bulwark against ACA repeal. She generally did not commit to opposition till the last minute, though -- and she visibly relied on support from Maine voters who flooded her with pleas to stop repeal and showered her with love when she did.

Join us on Tuesday at Marcia's from 5:30 to 8 p.m.  We will be calling Maine voters -- as we did this summer -- and asking them to urge their senator to reject this ruinous tax cut bill.

We will providing a call list and recommended script.

If you can not attend on Tuesday but would like to make calls from home, please email us at [email protected] and we will contact you with instructions for calling from home.
