Phone Bank To Reject Disastrous Tax Bill

Senate Republicans plan to bring their horrific tax bill to a vote this week. On MondayNov. 27, we'll be phone-banking again to reach voters represented by one key senator, Susan Collins of Maine.

As with the ACA repeal bills, this travesty can be stopped by turning three Republican senators against it. We do our part by calling voters in states with Republican senators who have expressed qualms about the bill and asking them to demand "no" votes.

This bill massively cuts taxes for corporations while raising them on working people. It increases the deficit by $1.5 trillion and so will trigger large automatic spending cuts to key domestic programs including Medicare, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office CBO -- a $25 billion cut next year and every year after. The Senate's version also cripples Obamacare by repealing a core part of the law -- likely un-insuring 13 million people, according to CBO.

Join us on Monday at Victory 2017 Office in Montclair from [5:00 to 7:30 p.m].

The tax bill:

  • raises taxes on every income group up through $50,000-75,000 by 2027, while making a huge corporate tax cut permanent.
  • repeals the ACA individual mandate, which will reduce the ranks of the insured by 13 million according to projections by the Congressional Budget Office.
  • triggers about $150 billion dollars per year in mandatory spending cuts, including a $25 billion cut to Medicare in the first year, according to CBO.
  • will lead to other massive spending cuts to vital domestic programs, per Paul Ryan's promise.
This summer and fall, Senator Susan Collins of Maine was the strongest Republican bulwark against ACA repeal. She generally did not commit to opposition till the last minute, though -- and she visibly relied on support from Maine voters who flooded her with pleas to stop repeal and showered her with love when she did.

Join us on Monday at Victory 2017 Office in Montclair 5:00 to 7:30 p.m.  We will be calling Mainevoters -- as we did this summer -- and asking them to urge their senator to reject this ruinous tax cut bill.

We will providing a call list and recommended script.
